A Prayer To Us and For Us

I was asked by our Worship Pastor to find a verse that reflects the awe and powerful name of Jesus. If I am being honest, it was actually kind of hard, because how do you find ONE VERSE to reflect such a powerful name when the whole bible reflects just that!

As I researched quickly more into some verses I was met with John 17:24. I began reading the verse, but wanted to see even more of the full context of the verse and I was greeted with an overwhelming comfort.

John 17:24 sits in the middle of a prayer, a prayer to us and for us. John 17:20-26 is a prayer that Jesus prayed for all believers. The one who were, the ones who are, and the ones who are yet to come to know Him.

Take a moment to read these words in the perspective of Jesus speaking them directly to you.

John 17:20-26

“My Prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one - I in them and you in me - so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. ‘Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”

How cool is this?! I sat with these verses for a bit reflecting on the idea that Jesus was praying over me right at that very moment. Praying that I become one in Him as He is in God. It brought me back to a time last week when I was completely broken at the foot of the throne. Weeping amongst the stress of life, relationships, friendships, and passions/dreams that I had this pent-up emotion ready to be released.

I sat on my bed sobbing, when I got a vision of seeing myself in that very moment, but outside of my physical body. I was standing in the corner of my room next to my desk and saw myself weeping. I wasn’t alone though, I saw Jesus sitting with me in that vulnerable space with his arm wrapped around me.

So, as I read this verse I was brought back to that moment, feeling God’s love within me and becoming more knowledgeable of Him.

I encourage you today, take some time to read over John 17:20-26 a couple of times.

What stood out to you?

What makes you feel encouraged?

Are there parts of this verse that may have confused you?

As you reflect on these verses, listen to the song “Love Note” by Upperroom.

This is another beautiful picture of God’s love note to us!

Be blessed friends!
